Take 15 – 20 minutes to complete one of these exercises.[1]

1.  Think about a central character in your fiction or a favorite character in a novel or short story. Place that character in one of the following situations: lost in the wilderness, at a yearly celebration, at a funeral, or at a birth.

2.  Write in response to a strong odor.

3.  Write about a familiar ritual.  Interrupt it.
