Take 15 – 20 minutes to complete one of these exercises.
1. Close your eyes and
focus on the first image that comes into your mind. Jot down a list of words
describing that image. Use that list as inspiration for a free write.
2. Write down
a favorite quote. Circle it. Then compose a list of words describing how the
quote makes you feel. Write a short free write whose central theme or character
employs those emotions in some way.
3. "'Maybe this time it will work,' I thought even
as I felt myself succumbing.. " Let this sentence serve as a jumping
off point for your writing.
