Take 15 – 20 minutes to complete one of these excercises.
1.
Do an unencumbered free write - no guidelines!
2.
Think of your favorite character (or a favorite character) from children's stories. Place that character in a moment that could be characterized as coming of age. You have free reign as to which epoch of life to place the character's transition, provided that it is not the age that you encounter them in the story.
3.
Place a character that you are currently working on (or a favorite character) in the midst of an act of God, for example: a hailstorm, and earthquake, a tornado, a hurricane, a flood, a snowstorm, etc.
