Take 15 – 20 minutes to complete one of these exercises.
1. Find a quiet place
and close your eyes. Allow three images to come to you. Once you have those
images, open your eyes and write them down. Then write a piece that incorporates
those images in some way.
2. Use the following
sentence to inspire a free write: "The way was clear and our mission
set, so why did I hesitate?"
3. This exercise is about capturing the everyday. Using
a piece you are currently working on, find a moment where your main character
must get from one place to the next. Slow that moment down, using your words
to make the experience of the everyday recognizable to the reader but also
dynamic.
